Additional learning support
Yass Public School has a Learning Support Team, consisting of specialist teachers and tutors, who work across all levels of our school to support our students with specific needs.
Support that fits your child's needs
The Learning Support team works closely with classroom teachers and parents to identify and support students. This support can be advising teachers on alternate methods of instruction or well being management, working one-to-one with students or small group instruction.
We have support programs operating in literacy and numeracy. The numeracy support classes have small numbers of students with both a teacher and a Student Learning Support Officer to assist students. Year one students are identified at the end of Kindergarten and a structured one to one reading support program is provided to assist them. Support may be offered for a term or more, depending on the needs of individual students.
An intensive literacy class is offered for Year 5/6 students, currently three sessions each week. Students are able to learn reading and writing skills in a smaller group and receive extra support on a needs basis.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
Contact us to meet with a member of this team to talk about your child’s strengths, interests and areas where they may need support.
