Our extra-curricular highlights
Trips and excursions
School trips help students learn by seeing and doing real things. They build social skills, independence, and confidence. Trips also let students discover new interests, connect lessons to real life, and become more curious. Plus, they create fun memories that make school enjoyable.
Our students have been able to participate in many excursions during 2025, including to the Canberra Reptile Park, Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, Canberra Zoo & Aquarium, and Parliament House Canberra.
Public speaking
Public speaking helps students build confidence, communicate clearly, and think carefully about topics. It improves listening, supports schoolwork, and prepares them for future jobs. Speaking well also encourages leadership and personal growth.
Yass Public School holds an annual Public Speaking competition open to all students from Years 2 to 6, proudly supported by our former Assistant Principal, Mr Phil Cox.
Creative and performing arts
In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.
Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.
Yass Public School has many opportunities for students to express themselves through creative arts. We can also offer events for students to display their work, including the CAPA evening at Yass High School, held annually.
Music lessons and performances
Musical education offers numerous benefits for students, enhancing both their academic and personal development. It fosters creativity and self-expression, helping students build confidence and emotional intelligence. Engaging with music improves cognitive skills such as memory, attention, and problem-solving, which can translate into better performance in other subjects.
Yass Public School is proud to partner with the Hume Conservatorium of Music in 2025 to provide both school based, and private music lessons.
